Fight Hunger with Century Link
June 4, 2018 - June 15, 2018
My name is Jason Chan and I’m chairing CenturyLink’s food drive efforts this year for the Central Region (AZ, CO, NM, and NV). My company puts up a $1 million in matching funds for food banks and my goal is for each of you to raise as much money as possible so we can end hunger in this region. To do this, I NEED YOUR HELP!
I need you to look through your donor lists and identify donors or opportunities where we can direct donations that would normally go to your food bank to www.centurylink.com/fooddrive from June 4-15. By moving the donations to this website during this time frame, you’ll get the money back PLUS matching funds! As you’ll see in the chart below, there are some sweet spots. IF you only raised $1, you’d get a check back for $76. If you raised $10,001, you’d receive a check back for $25,001 (the $10,000 you raised PLUS a $15,000 match amount). Long story short, the more you can help raise, the more matching funds you’ll receive. There is a large food bank which has shifted one of its large donors to donate the full $100K during this period and we’ve been able to match the $100K! We can totally do this if we work together!
Here are the keys to being successful in our food drive:
1. Our foundation puts up a $1 million match for food banks June 4-15th. The money is given out proportionally to the funds raised. There’s a $100K cap per food bank. (2017’s money was doled out according to the table below)
2. There is no food involved. Only donations made at centurylink.com/fooddrive during the giving period count towards the match
3. In years past, we wrongly assumed that only employees could donate. In seeing some banks receive the lion’s share of the funds, we’ve now learned the best way to get the most match money for a local food bank is to work with that food bank to target big dollar donors that can move their giving amount to during the CenturyLink time frame so as to capture the match.
